Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was convicted of planning a armed takeover in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under house arrest pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after fresh information came to light.

This involved attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the detention, Justice Moraes said data from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the former leader's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his getaway".

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the gathering called by his child.

His son, Flávio, who works as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.

The senator wrote on digital networks on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your country, or see it all from your mobile device there on your sofa? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so supporters could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our country."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of the judge's decision was the possibility of Bolsonaro's transfer to foreign missions near the home, considering that the probes revealed a history of arranging to seek refuge through a diplomatic representation", a statement said.
