Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

His retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent defended four initial chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
