Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
An important official stated the attack made him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
